Some tips to keep in mind as you decide on your domain name:

1. Use Keywords

Your domain name doesn't have to be your business name. Try using keywords that describe your business, services, or brand to help improve search engine ranking. For example, if you're based in Pretoria and want to be known for your unsurpassed quality, pretoriabakery.co.za is an alternative option to sanniesbakery.com. (and you can register pretoria-bakery.co.za to separate the two keywords and point it to your other domain)

2. Be Memorable

There are 299 million registered domain names. Make yours catchy and memorable.

3. Use an Appropriate Domain Name Extension (e.g. .co.za, .com, .net, .biz)

Domain extensions can have specific uses, so make sure to choose one that is aligned with your business.

4. Protect and Build Your Brand

Consider purchasing various domain extensions, as well as alternative spellings of your domain name such as cyberage.co.za, cyberage.biz etc.

After establishing your primary Web address, you may also want to develop a multiple domain names strategy to aid your marketing efforts. Think about purchasing domain names that represent different aspects of your business, such as product names or taglines. These Web addresses could then be used to run targeted marketing campaigns with a specific focus for your business.

For example, in addition to mcdonalds.com, McDonald's leverages their tagline with the Web address ImLovinIt.com to take customers to a specific promotional page on their website.

Our free marketing websites is ideal to build a separate website for each individual domain and then use it to promote your main business and website.
  • .com stands for "commercial" and is the most widely used extension. Most businesses prefer a .com domain name because it is a highly recognized symbol for having a business presence on the Internet.

  • .net stands for "network," and at one time this suffix was used mostly by Internet service providers, Web hosting companies, and other businesses that are directly involved in the infrastructure of the Internet. Today, there are no restrictions on who can use a .net suffix, and many companies pick them as a second choice to - or in addition to - a .com suffix.

  • .org stands for "organization" and is primarily used by nonprofit groups or trade associations. Here, too, the suffix is actually open for anyone to use, and many companies pick .org as a widely recognized alternative to .com and .net.

  • .biz is used primarily for small-business websites.

  • .info designates a "resource" website, although there is no requirement that the site be informative in nature.

  • .us is for United States websites. Registrants of .us domains must be United States citizens, residents, or organizations, or foreign entities with a presence in the United States.

  • .mobi is for mobile-compatible websites.

  • .co.za is obviously for South African domain names together with .net.za and web.za
